Position: School Psychologist 1.0 FTE - 2026-2027 School Year

School Psychologist - Tolleson Union High School District Purpose

The School Psychologist supports students' academic, social, and emotional development. They assess and address learning and behavioral challenges, collaborate with educators and parents, and contribute to a positive and inclusive environment. Roles include counseling, assessments, implementing interventions, designing programs for students with social/emotional problems, developmental/learning disorders, and disabilities, advising the Principal on program implementation, and guiding parents and teachers. Collaboration occurs with teachers, administrators, occupational therapists, and other specialists.

Qualifications

Required:

Master's degree in School Psychology or a similar related field from an accredited institution.

Valid School Psychologist certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education.

Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Strong understanding of state and federal education policies and regulations.

Preferred:

A Ph.D. or Psy.

D. in School Psychology or a similar educational field.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Essential Functions

Assist staff in identifying students with disabilities.

Screen, observe, and/or gather data on referred students.

Evaluate students, select instruments, administer tests, observations, write reports with findings and educational program recommendations in compliance with IDEA.

Participate as a member of multi-disciplinary and IEP teams, communicating findings and collaborating on the child's educational plan.

Participate in manifestation determination meetings.

Provide collaborative consultation, including pre-referral intervention strategies and recommendations/modifications for general education staff.

Be available for professional advice and consultation related to psychological needs and services.

Direct and plan psychological and/or counseling services on an individual basis, coordinated with the IEP team.

Coordinate all psychological activities on campus with appropriate officials.

Collaborate to assess threats on campus.

Assist with Section 504 evaluations and collaborate with school counselors to create coordinated plans.

Adhere to ethical standards, codes, and governing rules, regulations, and laws of special education programs.

Maintain compliance with district policies and procedures.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and parents.

Serve as liaison with community health services, provide support, refer students to community-based services as needed.

Act as liaison with school, alternative programs, private placements, residential treatment centers, and other social service agencies.

Prepare and submit required written reports timely, following district procedures.

Participate in professional development activities.

Participate in professional communities at the school and district level.

Work under the supervision of the Director of Special Services, in partnership with the Special Education Department Chairperson.

Perform other duties as requested by administration and Director of Special Services to ensure efficiency.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills:

everyday use of hands, standard office equipment, keyboard, software applications, project planning and record keeping.

Knowledge: advanced math, reading technical information, facilitating group discussions, advanced classroom management theory and basic grammar & punctuation.

Abilities: scheduling, data gathering, using equipment, flexibility, communication with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines, handling interruptions, setting priorities, establishing relationships.

Responsibility

Work under limited supervision, lead, coordinate others, track budget expenditures, utilize resources from other units, and impact organizational services.

Working Environment

Physical demands include reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, bending, sitting, climbing, balancing, and moving up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 35 pounds occasionally. The job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, 10% standing. Work indoors in a controlled environment but may involve travel between campuses and outside locations. Noise level is moderate.

Director of Special Education or Principal.

Terms of Employment

Ten-month, full time.

Evaluation

Annual evaluation as outlined in Governing Board Policy.

Exempt.
