Our client is a PE-backed provider of contracted construction services to public and private customers across the US. This organization is positioned for growth, both organically and through acquisition, and seeks a VP of Finance (Divisional CFO) to support its Southwest operations.
As a key member of the divisional executive team, the Vice President – Finance will report to the Division President and assume an operational and strategic role in the overall management of the business. Partnering with the corporate leadership team, the VP of Finance will provide the financial and business operations support needed to drive performance improvement, working capital management, and operational metric tracking.
Functional responsibilities include transactional accounting of AP and AR, job costing, divisional operational reporting, integration of newly acquired branches, management of internal controls, cash management, financial planning and analysis, and cost control.
The ideal candidate is a hard-working, hands-on operating partner who works closely with the division and corporate teams to drive business performance.
Position Responsibilities- Lead the performance of the accounting and finance function
- Coach, manage, train, and motivate the divisional accounting and finance team, with a strong emphasis on planning, organization, preparation, follow-up, and internal communication
- Lead deployment of operating processes and systems within the division
- Support the integration of newly acquired branches’ accounting, job costing, and reporting processes onto systems and chart of accounts
- Improve efficiency and accuracy of business processes to collect and account for transactional activities in coordination with field management and divisional leadership
- Manage job costing, revenue recognition, invoicing, and reporting
- Understand profitability and key operational metrics to develop accurate, timely reporting
- Prepare and file all state and local tax returns for the division in a timely and accurate manner
- Direct the timely preparation of all financial reports, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Provide direction and oversight of the annual audit process for the division
- Prepare budgets and forecasts, and develop analytical tools to proactively drive business results
- Lead the divisional treasury function, including accounts receivable and payables management
- Develop and manage 13-week cash flow forecasts
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the organization, providing ongoing input and economic analysis, including recommendations on contract pricing, ROI for proposed capital expenditures, and working capital management
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
- 10+ years of increasingly senior finance leadership experience, with a background in construction or other project-based businesses
- Hands-on experience with construction job costing, WIP schedules, and revenue recognition
- Experience preparing and managing weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial statements and operational dashboards
- A firm executive presence with the ability to influence and work effectively across the business
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- CPA and/or MBA
- Experience working with private equity-owned businesses
- Experience with government contracts or the Department of Transportation
- Experience integrating the accounting and finance functions of newly acquired businesses
- Proven ability to quickly assess, build, and lead a strong finance organization in a fast-paced business environment
- Willingness to be involved in all details of the business — working both on the business and in the business
- Ability to build a strong presence with divisional and corporate leadership
