Job Responsibilities & Requirements
The Welder is responsible for performing MIG welding, fabrication, and production of MBP steel components and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position operates in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, maintain dimensional tolerances, inspect completed welds, and produce quality products that meet customer requirements. The Welder may perform manual welding, robotic cell operations, setup activities, and other production‑related tasks as assigned.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards are critical to this role.
- Perform MIG welding of steel components and assemblies according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and production specifications.
- Set up, operate, and monitor robotic welding cells and related equipment as required.
- Manufacture steel components from various material thicknesses while maintaining required dimensional tolerances and print specifications.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, penetration, fit‑up, appearance, and conformance to specifications.
- Verify dimensions using tape measures, squares, calipers, angle gauges, and other measuring devices.
- Perform equipment setup, fixture changes, and minor troubleshooting to support production requirements.
- Identify and report quality concerns and assist with corrective actions and rework activities.
- Meet established safety, quality, productivity, and attendance expectations in a high‑volume production environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly utilize required PPE.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of the position, including arriving on time, being present at the workstation at the start of the shift, and working overtime as required.
- Safety:
Must have an outstanding safety record and follow all safety policies and procedures. Participate in safety training and meetings. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Report all injuries, accidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions immediately. Use equipment, tools, and materials properly. Lead by example in safe work practices. - Quality:
Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Monitor own work and work within the areas to ensure quality standards are met. Identify and address quality concerns proactively. Promote continuous improvement and quality workmanship. - Quantity:
Meet productivity standards without diminishing quality. Complete work in a timely manner while maintaining established quality standards. - Dependability:
Take responsibility for actions and results. Commit to working overtime when necessary to achieve business objectives. Follow through on commitments and responsibilities. - Initiative:
Demonstrate initiative by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency. Seek assistance when needed and contribute positively to team objectives.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One to three years of MIG welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience welding structural steel products and assemblies preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications required.
- Experience working with dimensional tolerances and quality inspection procedures preferred.
- Effective communication skills with co‑workers and management regarding production, quality, and safety issues.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; calculate and verify dimensions, measurements, angles, and tolerances.
- Reasoning ability: apply practical problem‑solving skills in a manufacturing environment; interpret written, verbal, diagram, and drawing‑based instructions; troubleshoot welding issues.
