Position: FAB QA SUPERINTENDENT

About the Role

Food Safety/ QA Superintendent II in the Technical Services department at the Plant. Exempt, salaried position. Reports directly to the Technical Services Director and has primary responsibility for directing the workforce to achieve all safety, animal welfare, food safety, export, and quality goals set by facility management. The role supervises FSQA personnel and oversees quality and food safety aspects of production, including product specifications testing, food safety systems, process improvements, and quality programs within the plant.

Responsibilities
  • Organizes and coordinates the activities of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance team to meet and exceed quality, export, animal welfare, and food safety goals by leveraging engineering and food/meat science skillsets.
  • Conducts investigations of plant Food Safety and Quality Assurance processes and ensures process improvement projects and tasks are completed.
  • Participates in Operational Excellence projects, meeting the project team no less than twice per year.
  • Coordinates the implementation of quality and food safety programs (HACCP and SSOP) and procedures using food science, meat science, and microbiology knowledge.
  • Manages the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor on the responsible shift.
  • Proactively seeks ways to reduce cost through elimination of foreign material.
  • Works to minimize customer claims through engineering controls.
  • Monitors activities to ensure team member safety and accurately reports any unsafe acts to prevent workplace safety incidents; coordinates with the site safety team for annual LOTO training.
  • Advocates new quality policies and procedures to ensure high quality products, processes, and services.
  • Communicates programs and procedures to the FSQA team and other plant team members through in‑class and hands‑on training.
  • Maintains strong communication and working relationships with the FSQA team, site Operations team, and USDA personnel, ensuring all USDA regulations are followed.
  • Acts as a backup to the Technical Services Director for facilitating third‑party or customer audits.
  • Interfaces with facility teams to assist in problem‑solving using root‑cause analysis for daily personnel and processing incidents.
  • Ensures adherence to quality programs to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Communicates issues to site management to ensure compliance with customer and product specifications.
  • Understands and executes animal welfare and handling principles within the facility’s scope.
  • Completes additional tasks as directed by the Technical Services Director.

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or a related field (Meat Science, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology Engineering, Food Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or similar) required; or 5+ years of industry experience.
Experience
  • Extensive knowledge and technical skill in a variety of QA and production jobs, including supervisory positions.
