Crossing Guard; Duty Duty

Purpose Statement

The role of Crossing Guard is to support the educational process by ensuring the safety and welfare of students in transit to and from school, and communicating observations or incidents that may impact their well-being.

This job reports to an Assigned Administrator.

• Assists students, parents, staff, and visitors to provide safe access to and from assigned locations.
• Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, and other gatherings to gather required information.
• Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff, and visitors, ensuring their understanding.
• Guides traffic to ensure the safety of students and pedestrians.
• Monitors student behavior entering and exiting school grounds to ensure compliance with guidelines and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Reports incidents (e.g., personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations) so that follow-up occurs per administrative, security, and safety protocols.
• Responds to various situations (e.g., altercations, accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities) to take appropriate action and resolve immediate safety/security concerns.

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

• Safety practices: adhere to and administer first aid.
• Basic math, reading, and understanding of written and oral instructions; knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and traffic laws.
• Scheduling, data collation, use of basic job-related equipment; flexibility and teamwork; problem solving; discretion, attentiveness, and confidentiality.

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and fine finger dexterity. Typical time distribution: 5% sitting, 45% walking, 50% standing. Work may occur under temperature extremes.

• Job-related experience desired.
• High-school diploma or equivalent.

• Criminal Background Clearance/Fingerprint Clearance
• MMR vaccination (if required)
