Heavy Duty Commercial Technician Responsibilities
  • Review repair orders, work orders, and notes to fully understand required repairs prior to starting work.
  • Perform Pre‑Delivery Inspections (PDI) to ensure vehicles meet quality and safety requirements before returning to service.
  • Conduct Red DOT safety inspections to verify compliance with DOT safety standards.
  • Assist with CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicle inspections, systems check, and related repair processes as required.
  • Perform inspection, diagnosis, and replacement of fan clutches/hubs. Inspect fifth wheel, perform DOT‑compliant brake inspections.
  • Use OEM software/tools (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Detroit DDDL, Bendix ACom, WABCO Toolbox, Eaton) to run tests, calibrations, and updates.
  • Tag all warranty parts and returns to warranty clerk.
  • Perform a final quality inspection and review the completed work order before the vehicle moves to the detailing department.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of manufacturer repair procedures, technical processes, and OEM specifications.
Preferred Experience
  • Knowledge of OEM repair methods and industry‑standard repair practices.
  • CNG inspection or repair experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform PDI processes and Red DOT safety inspections.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 5 years’ experience as a Class 7 & 8 technician in a dealership or related truck service facility.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Peterbilt, International, Ford, Hino, Isuzu, Cummins, &/or ASE certifications are preferred & rewarded.
