Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Dock Supervisor who will oversee daily operations, ensure safety, and drive efficiency within its freight network. The role involves managing teams, utilizing proprietary technology, and maintaining operational excellence in a company that has set industry standards since 1934.
Responsibilities- Monitor and evaluate the safety of each employee on a daily basis
- Monitor and evaluate the safe and efficient loading and unloading process of freight throughout the shift
- Teach employees safe lifting techniques and perform safe lifting as needed
- Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure safety and productivity
- Manage, assign, and supervise dock employees to ensure proper utilization of staff and equipment while meeting OD and customer expectations
- Handle dock work schedules, time off requests, and disciplinary actions as needed
- Work closely with the Operations Manager, Assistant SVC Manager, or Service Center Manager to align daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly business objectives
- Provide analysis, suggestions, and ideas to improve operations within the shift, department, and facility
- Conduct daily safety inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, OSHA, and DOT regulations
- Ensure 100% of trailers are loaded correctly and inspected for cleanliness and proper techniques
- Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS, and other internal freight monitoring systems
- Complete forklift job training and operate forklift as necessary
- Conduct daily shift meetings and make quick decisions based on volume levels
- Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment and direct corrections for any improper or adverse conditions
- Ensure compliance with company and government regulations
- High School Diploma or equivalent (college coursework preferred; bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of operations experience, preferably in transportation
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Working knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS, and BLU systems
- Knowledge of general DOT regulations
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Working Days:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Working Shift: AM / PM (days and shifts are estimates and may change based on scheduling).
