Job Title
Assistant Chief Engineer
DutiesMajor Duties:
- Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and management process for Service Line programs, which include setting qualitative and quantitative standards.
- Oversees the Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care Programs for Utility Systems Management, Safety, Life Safety, and Medical Equipment Management for both this Medical Center and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
- Responsible for strengthening and enhancing healthcare facility engineering and operations.
- Collaborates with operations and program managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for Engineering Service are met.
- Facilitates stakeholder understanding of clinic program desires and engineering, technical, facility, and infrastructure requirements and capabilities. The Assistant Chief is knowledgeable of, and plays an integral role in the accomplishment of, overall VISN and Medical Center goals, missions, and priorities to assure a positive impact on other programs and resources.
- Provides professional and technical guidance and direction and review of assigned programs, including professional engineering work in several disciplines such as; civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, structural engineer, environmental engineering, and fire safety and safety engineering.
- Develops Medical Center policies, procedures and resource allocations for assigned programs.
- Oversees human resources management matters for the services, including development and implementation of succession and workforce plans.
- Manages human resource functions such as performance, training and development, hiring, and firing.
- Supports the Strategic Capital Investment Planning (SCIP) process.
- Creates and supports programs to ensure the healthcare system manages and maintains fire safety equipment, systems, and life safety building features.
- Identifies risks associated with highly sophisticated utility systems and the general physical environment.
- Provides for the budgeting and financial management for Engineering Service.
- Researches and/or analyzes problems, issues, or program requirements related to all areas of the facility and all facets of Engineering Service.
- Develops technical data regarding materials, sizes, dimensions, quantities, and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications.
Work Schedule:
Full time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
