Tax Senior

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Senior to lead tax preparation and review engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations and nonprofit clients. The Tax Senior will prepare and review federal and state returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990), provide tax planning and compliance services for high net worth individuals (HNWI) and business clients, supervise junior staff, and act as a primary client contact to ensure accurate, timely filings and high-quality tax advice.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state individual (1040), partnership (1065), corporate (1120, 1120S), and nonprofit (990) tax returns with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Provide tax planning and compliance advice for high net worth individuals (HNWI), closely held businesses, partnerships and corporations.
• Manage client relationships: serve as primary point of contact, gather client information, explain tax results and recommendations, and resolve client questions.
• Supervise, mentor and review work of staff accountants and tax preparers; assign tasks, provide training, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Perform technical research on complex tax issues and apply findings to client situations, documenting conclusions and recommendations.
• Prepare and review K-1s, schedules and supporting work papers; ensure proper reporting for partnerships and flow-through entities.
• Use tax software (Lacerte preferred) and accounting systems (Quick Books) to prepare returns, organize client files and maintain accurate records.
• Coordinate and manage tax engagement workflow and deadlines, including extensions, estimated tax calculations and state filings.
• Conduct quality control and review procedures for tax return accuracy, completeness and compliance with current tax laws.
• Assist with IRS and state notices, audits and correspondence as needed; represent clients under appropriate authorization.
• Support year-round tax planning projects, projections, and client meetings to optimize tax positions and cash flow.
• Contribute to process improvements, firm best practices, and training materials to increase efficiency and consistency.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required;
  Masters in Tax or related advanced degree preferred.
• CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred; active candidates pursuing CPA/EA designation will be considered.
• 5+ years of public accounting tax experience with progressive responsibility preparing and reviewing individual, partnership and corporate returns.
• Demonstrated experience with preparation and review of 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S and 990 returns.
• Experience servicing high net worth individuals (HNWI) and closely held businesses, including tax planning and complex return handling.
• Proficiency with tax preparation software (Lacerte strongly preferred) and accounting systems such as Quick Books.
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax laws, and ability to research and interpret complex provisions.
• Proven supervisory experience, strong coaching and review skills, and ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with ability to explain tax issues clearly to non-technical clients.
• High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.
• Comfortable preparing, reviewing and finalizing individual returns, partnership returns, and corporate returns (C-Corp and S-Corp).
