Tax Senior
We are seeking an experienced Tax Senior to lead preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships and corporations. The Tax Senior will manage a portfolio that includes high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) and business clients, ensure compliance and accurate tax filings, provide tax planning and research, and supervise junior staff. This role requires strong technical knowledge, client-facing skills, and proficiency with tax software and bookkeeping tools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare and review individual and fiduciary tax returns (Form 1040 and related schedules) for high-net-worth individuals (HNWI).
- Prepare and review partnership and corporate tax returns, including Form 1065, Form 1120, Form 1120-S and nonprofit Form 990.
- Manage end-to-end tax engagement workflow: client intake, data gathering, tax preparation, review, filing, and post-filing support.
- Perform tax research and technical analysis to resolve complex tax issues and apply appropriate positions for federal and state returns.
- Provide tax planning and advisory services to HNWI and business clients, including entity selection, compensation strategies, and year-end planning.
- Use tax software and bookkeeping tools (Lacerte / lacert, Quick Books) to prepare returns and manage client records; ensure accurate data flow between systems.
- Supervise, train and mentor junior staff and tax preparers; review their work, provide feedback, and assign tasks to meet deadlines.
- Coordinate with clients, CPAs, EAs, and external advisors; communicate findings, tax impacts, and required documentation clearly and professionally.
- Maintain quality control, ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards, and meet firm productivity and billing goals.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field;
Masters degree in Taxation or Accounting a plus. - Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred; progress toward CPA or EA credentials strongly preferred.
- Minimum 46 years of public accounting tax experience with proven experience preparing and reviewing 1040, 1065, 1120/1120-S and 990 returns.
- Demonstrated experience working with high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) and complex individual returns.
- Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax laws, multi-state filings, and tax planning for individuals, partnerships and corporations.
- Proficiency with Lacerte (lacert), Quick Books, and common tax research tools and practice management software.
- Prior experience as a Tax Senior or senior tax preparer with responsibilities for prepare and review workflows and mentoring staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a client-service orientation and the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical clients.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple engagements and meet deadlines during peak seasons.
- High ethical standards, professional judgment, and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
