Construction Superintendent – Parks & Recreational Construction

Location: Greater Houston Area
Salary: $120,000–$140,000 DOE
Industry: Commercial Construction | Parks | Site Development | Recreational Facilities

About the Company

Our client is a rapidly growing commercial contractor specializing in the construction of parks, recreational facilities, amenity centers, playgrounds, and outdoor community spaces throughout the Greater Houston area. Unlike traditional commercial general contractors, they self‑manage highly specialized site development projects that require expertise from raw land through project completion.

They are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent who can immediately step into a leadership role, manage multiple projects, and become a long‑term contributor to a company that values integrity, collaboration, and a family‑first culture.

Position Overview

This role is ideal for a Superintendent with a strong background in civil/site construction, structural concrete, grading, drainage, underground utilities, and commercial site development.

The successful candidate will oversee projects from raw land through final completion while coordinating subcontractors, solving field challenges, communicating with owners and architects, and ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget.

This is not a traditional vertical construction superintendent role. Success requires understanding everything happening below grade just as much as what is built above it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial park, recreation, and amenity construction projects from site preparation through completion.
  • Oversee grading, drainage, underground utilities, structural concrete, sidewalks, hardscape, playground installation, and vertical building components.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to plans and specifications.
  • Read and interpret civil, grading, drainage, and structural plans.
  • Identify field conflicts and develop practical solutions while maintaining project schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and municipal representatives.
  • Manage project schedules, quality control, budgets, and daily field operations.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and ensure compliance with company standards.
  • Mentor junior field staff and assistant superintendents.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation and reporting.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional client relationships.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Superintendent experience managing commercial site development or heavy site construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Grading
  • Drainage systems
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to problem solve in the field.
  • Comfortable leading meetings with owners, architects, and engineers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages of construction.
Preferred Background

Candidates may come from industries such as:

  • Commercial Site Development
  • Parks & Recreation Construction
  • Sports Complex Construction
  • Amenity Construction
  • Underground Utilities
  • Specialty Site Contractors
  • Recreation Facilities
What Will Make Someone Successful

The ideal candidate:

  • Thinks beyond the plans and proactively solves problems.
  • Understands construction from underground infrastructure through final finishes.
  • Has the confidence to lead subcontractors while collaborating with owners and architects.
  • Thrives in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Can quickly earn the trust and respect of crews and clients.
  • Wants to grow with a rapidly expanding company.
