Purpose:

Help special education teacher provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self‑help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Education/Certification: Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements.

Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire.

• Knowledge of general office equipment

Prior experience working with children.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing; heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
