Primary
Purpose:
Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self‑help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements. Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire.
Special Knowledge and
Skills:
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
Minimum Experience: Prior experience working with children.
Working Conditions:
- Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.
- Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Exposure to disruptive behavior, bacteria and communicable diseases.
Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
