Job DescriptionPrimary
Purpose:
To supervise and instruct students in the work training program for students with disabilities in the Tomball community by reaching out to students and employers in a positive and encouraging way. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
Minimum
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent;
Educational Aide I certification from TEA.
Minimum Experience: CDL drivers license preferred, experience related to working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent.
Special Knowledge and
Skills:
Excellent driving record and knowledge of driving skills. Able to work under stress related conditions and maintain personal and professional attitude.
- Job Coach to students: train, deliver, and supervise students with disabilities on the job, including communication to the VAC, employer, and the parent regarding student employment skills.
- Special Education Driver: maintain current commercial driver’s license and individual license on and off job. Deliver or support students for transportation to work and return to campus or home (preferred).
- Inclusion Specialist: teach students with disabilities in a community setting with typical peers to promote their transition plan and sustainability for life after high school. Follow the IEP of the student and assist in any needed modification of curriculum to meet student’s needs.
- Teacher Aide to Special Education VAC: aide with VAC students, some subbing, help with VAC miscellaneous tasks.
- Behavior management with Special Education students: maintain professional, positive attitude.
- Daily documentation of each student worked with in the Job Coach position and as an Inclusion Specialist.
- Assist other Special Education Faculty as needed and time allows.
- Judgment skills: used with the position, 80% of time is independent supervisory skills, able to make quick, sound decisions with students when teacher is not available.
- Professional competence when working with employers, parents, students, and VAC.
- Organizational and schedule proficiency used in all daily aspects of this entire position. Daily schedule fluctuates frequently.
- Daily adaptive skills: adapt to the continual emotional demands placed on this position by the students, changing/flexible schedule and need for initiative.
- Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

Working ConditionsResponsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior. The job requires walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 53 pounds.
