Primary

Purpose:

Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self‑help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

• Education/Certification:
  • Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or completion of formal academic assessment requirements.
  • Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Minimum Experience: Prior experience working with children.

Mental Demands / Physical Demands / Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior, exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
