Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

Education/Certification

• Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
• Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification; certification will be recommended by the district upon hire

Special Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment
• Basic first aid knowledge and CPR

Minimum Experience

• Prior experience working with children

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior, exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
