Primary
Purpose:
Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
- Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
- Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire
- Ability to work with children with disabilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Basic first aid knowledge and CPR
- Prior experience working with children
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities require contact with individuals that may include exposure to disruptive behavior, exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
