Primary

Purpose:

Assist the special education teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Provide support for classroom program implementation, including self‑help, behavior management, and instructional programs.

Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

• Associate’s degree or equivalent formal academic assessment or two years of study at an institute of higher learning.
• Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification recommended by the district upon hire.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Prior experience working with children.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress with frequent interruptions; moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities may involve contact with individuals that may expose to disruptive behavior or bacteria and communicable diseases.
