Primary

Purpose:

Help the special education teacher provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. Work under general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Education/Certification
:

Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements. Educational Aide Certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire.

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Knowledge of general office equipment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities may involve contact with individuals with disruptive behavior and exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
