Primary
Purpose:
Help a special education teacher provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: Associate’s degree, two years (48 hours) of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment requirements
- Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification will be recommended by the district upon hire
- Special Knowledge and
Skills:
Ability to work with children with disabilities including autism - Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of general office equipment
- Basic first aid knowledge and CPR
- Minimum Experience: Prior experience working with children
- Working Conditions: Mental/physical demands and environmental factors as described below
- Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Moderate walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying of students up to 53 pounds; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Responsibilities may involve contact with individuals with disruptive behavior and exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
