Growing, PE backed construction company in NW Houston seeks an experienced, hands on Controller/CFO. This company is positioned for significant operational scaling, strategic growth initiatives, and continued market expansion. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional who thrives in entrepreneurial and fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will bring strong controllership experience, operational finance expertise, and the ability to help build scalable financial infrastructure to support both organic growth and future acquisitions.

Our client is a long standing Houston based organization with wonderful employees, a positive and supportive corporate culture, and a drive to grow exponentially. The company is private equity backed, but still has involvement by the original owners. The company is just under $100MM revenues now and poised to grow. The company has operations all over Texas and other states and is more than 20 years old.

The company has had extensive growth over the last several years and is excited about the future of the organization.

The accounting team is solid, but needs a strong, hands on leader to build and grow a healthy finance foundation for the organization as they grow. This role is a reorganization of functions that were done by multiple people in the organization, and is a result of a need to make sure that the accounting piece is solid as the company begins growing through mergers, acquisitions, greenfield growth and continued success.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a pivotal finance leadership role during a period of expansion and transformation. You’ll help define the company’s growth strategy, lead acquisition integration efforts, and build a best‑in‑class finance function that supports a scalable, high-performance organization.

• Lead all accounting operations (AP, AR, GL, payroll, and job costing)
• Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and project profitability analysis
• Manage project‑based cost accounting, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, and change order tracking
• Monitor cash flow and working capital across multiple active projects and pipelines
• Develop financial dashboards and KPIs for executive leadership
• Ensure GAAP compliance, tax coordination, and audit readiness working with 3rd party accounting firms
• Oversee vendor and subcontractor payments, retainage, and large‑scale project financial administration
• Drive improvements to reporting systems (Quick Books enterprise accounting software experience preferred)

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong preference for the construction industry (concrete, general contracting, or civil construction experience highly valued)
• CPA strongly preferred
• Private Equity experience highly desired
• Audit experience required
• Hands‑on expertise in job costing and construction project accounting
• Advanced Excel proficiency and ERP/systems experience
