Our client, a growing private equity-backed construction company, is seeking a hands‑on Senior Controller to join its leadership team during an exciting phase of expansion and operational transformation. The company is positioned for significant growth through organic expansion, acquisitions, and continued market development across Texas and beyond.

This is a high‑impact opportunity for an experienced accounting and finance leader who thrives in entrepreneurial, fast‑paced environments and enjoys building scalable financial infrastructure. The ideal candidate will bring strong controllership experience, operational finance expertise, and a hands‑on leadership style to help support the company’s continued growth trajectory.

Company Overview

Our client is a long‑standing Houston‑based organization with an established reputation, strong leadership team, and a highly collaborative culture. Backed by private equity while still maintaining involvement from the original ownership group, the company has experienced substantial growth over the past several years and is now approaching $100M in annual revenue, with aggressive plans for continued expansion.

The organization currently operates throughout Texas and additional markets and is focused on strengthening its accounting and finance infrastructure as the business scales. The accounting team is established and stable, but the company is seeking a strong leader to help enhance processes, improve reporting capabilities, and create a scalable finance function to support future growth initiatives.

This role is fully in‑office in Northwest Houston and will oversee an established accounting team in a highly visible leadership position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, and job costing
  • Oversee monthly close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and project profitability analysis
  • Manage project‑based accounting, percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition, and change order tracking
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and working capital across multiple active projects and operational entities
  • Develop financial dashboards, KPIs, and reporting packages for executive leadership
  • Ensure GAAP compliance, audit readiness, and coordination with external accounting and tax firms
  • Oversee vendor payments, subcontractor accounting, retainage tracking, and project financial administration
  • Improve accounting systems, reporting processes, and operational controls to support scalability
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team while building a stronger finance infrastructure for future growth
  • Support acquisition integration efforts and finance process improvements as the organization expands
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience required
  • Strong preference for construction industry experience, including concrete, general contracting, or civil construction environments
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Private equity‑backed company experience highly desired
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in job costing, project accounting, and construction financial operations
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP/accounting systems experience required
  • Experience improving financial processes and scaling accounting infrastructure in high‑growth environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically
Why Join

This is a unique opportunity to step into a pivotal finance leadership role during a period of significant growth and transformation. The company offers the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, support strategic expansion initiatives, and help build a best‑in‑class accounting and finance function within a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
