Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Lab Technician performs routine, complex or specialized bacteriological, hematological, chemical, immunological, serological and immunoassay procedures on body fluids.

• Process specimens, perform testing, and report results independently.
• Maintain required competencies in all designated departments.
• Ensure accuracy for all testing performed.
• Observe patient safety, risk management, and infection control policies and procedures.
• Perform related quality control and required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure.
• Continue personal and professional growth; maintain competence.
• Identify and assist with opportunities for performance improvement within the unit and other service areas.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by managing time and resources effectively while promoting cost‑effectiveness and patient safety.
• Advocate for and protect the health, safety and rights of patients.
• Interacts with patients and colleagues with compassion and respect for all individuals.
• Communicate effectively with other care providers to ensure continuity of patient care.
• Maintain attendance, punctuality, and time‑keeping practices.
• Exhibit a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve unit, facility and organizational goals.
• Uphold professional and organizational standards and practice ethically with integrity.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Associate Degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
• No travel required.
