Job Summary And Qualifications
The PBX Operator is responsible for ensuring that all visitors (patient, family, physician) are greeted either in person or on the telephone in a respectful, friendly and prompt manner. The position provides information about patient’s location, answers questions about the facility, provides maps and directions to visitors. The position efficiently and courteously processes all incoming, outgoing and internal hospital calls received at the PBX panel, and answers questions about the hospital.
The position efficiently receives and follows notification processes for all Emergency Response Codes.

- Inspect machinery, office equipment, and/or medical equipment
- Solve problems requiring interpretation
- Utilize reasoning and problem-solving skills
- May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
- Occasionally exposed to radiation hazards
- Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit environment
- Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
- May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements
- Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
- Subject to long irregular hours
- Handles emergency or crisis situations
- Subject to many interruptions
- Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
- Handles absentee replacement on short notice
