Job Description

The Electrician Technician III position utilizes a specialized skill set in performing assigned duties and tasks. Responsible for campus-wide maintenance, service and repairs on electrical, lighting, HVAC on multiple buildings. Rely on experience, training and independent judgment to plan and carry out goals, missions and objectives.

Performs a variety of complicated tasks and may lead and coordinate the work of others. Responsible for maintaining all college, state, and federal safety guidelines and standards.

This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on special projects, recommending process improvement and implementing best practices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functional units.

Essential Job Functions
  • Directs and participates in preventive and corrective maintenance as well as general maintenance of electrical, lighting, and HVAC systems
  • Maintains daily work orders/records of equipment, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities and produces periodic reports
  • Conducts weekly, monthly and annual inspections of facilities/equipment
  • Repairs and/or replaces electrical components in campus buildings
  • Maintains and repairs bus ducts and load distribution centers
  • Troubleshoots and services multiple voltages up to and including 480 volts
  • Troubleshoots repairs, replacements and programs VFDs, MCC components, and lighting control systems
  • Maintains continuous inventory of electrical equipment and supplies
  • Assists management with recommendations for selection of vendors and purchase of equipment and services
  • Follows college, state, and federal guidelines and standards regarding safety
  • Assists with general maintenance duties such as plumbing, carpentry, HVAC as needed
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Must be capable of performing labor-intensive work associated with facilities maintenance
    • Must be capable of safely operating powered equipment such as electrical tools and equipment, voltage meters, testing equipment, saws, drills, and determining which equipment to use for a particular purpose
    • Must have knowledge of and ability to follow building codes
    • Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook
    Physical Abilities
    • Must be able to work at heights up to 50 feet
    • Requires fine finger strength and dexterity for picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working with fingers
    • Requires whole-hand strength for holding, extending arm(s) and hand(s) in any direction
    • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
    • Requires vocal communication for conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
    • Requires close visual acuity to perform principal duties and responsibilities
    • Requires mobility on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
    Work Schedule and Conditions
    • Must observe lifting, trip hazard, and power tools/equipment safety and chemical precautions
    • Work may be performed inside and outdoors and exposure to normal atmospheric conditions may exist
    • Interface with internal and external contacts, as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
    • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
    • May need to work weekends and untraditional hours if necessary
    • This position is classified as an essential employee, which means the individual may be required to report to work during college closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopening efforts
    Required Qualifications
    • High School diploma or GED and at least 7 years of experience
    • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be eligible for insurance coverage
    • Journeyman Electrician license
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and General Maintenance systems
    • Master Electrician's license
    Salary

    Hiring salary range is: $54,528 - $62,707
