Position: Apprentice Electrician - Maintenance - 2026-2027 School Year

Electrician Apprentice

Assist Journeyman Electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout district facilities. Perform electrical work under the supervision of a licensed or qualified electrician while developing the skills and knowledge necessary to become a Journeyman Electrician.

Qualifications

Minimum

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain)
  • Registered Texas Electrical Apprentice preferred or ability to obtain registration within a specified timeframe.

Minimum Experience:

  • Previous experience in construction, maintenance, or electrical work preferred, but not required.

Special Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical principles and electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn electrical codes, district standards, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with guidance and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, lighting, outlets, switches, breakers, panels, and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems throughout district facilities.
  • Replace lamps, ballasts, drivers, switches, receptacles, breakers, and other electrical components under supervision.
  • Assist with repairs to motors, controls, emergency lighting, and low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Install conduit, pull wire, and assist with new electrical installations and remodeling projects.
  • Operate electrical testing equipment to assist in diagnosing electrical problems.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all district safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Respond to emergency electrical service calls as directed.
  • Continue developing trade knowledge through on-the-job training and required educational opportunities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to perform other duties as assigned by the Electrical Supervisor.

Equipment Used:

Hand tools, power tools, multimeters, voltage testers, conduit benders, ladders, aerial lifts, trenching equipment, wire pullers, generators, and standard maintenance equipment.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials weighing over 50 pounds. Frequent work from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and aerial lifts. Responsibilities of the position may require irregular work hours.

Environment:
Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, electrical equipment, energized circuits, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and moving mechanical equipment. Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety procedures.
