McCarthy Building Companies is looking for Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) Technician, for our Water & Waster water team. This position is responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting and maintenance of VFDs and associated electrical/control systems used in water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role ensures reliable operation of pumps, motors, and automated processes critical to plant performance and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and commission low voltage (under 600V)
VFDs for pumps, blowers, and other motor-driven equipment - Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on VFDs, motors, and control circuits
- Maintain and repair electrical systems (low and medium voltage) in treatment plants and lift stations
- Program and adjust VFD parameters for optimal system performance and energy efficiency
- Integrate VFDs with PLC and SCADA systems
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on electrical and control equipment
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and minimize downtime
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Document maintenance activities, system changes, and service reports
- High school diploma or GED (Associate degree or technical certification preferred)
- 2–5+ years of experience with VFDs in industrial, municipal, or water/wastewater environments
- Strong understanding of:
- AC/DC motors
- Electrical systems and controls
- Industrial automation
- Experience with major VFD brands (e.g., ABB, Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
- Ability to read electrical diagrams and troubleshoot complex systems
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience in water or wastewater treatment facilities
- Familiarity with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc)
- Knowledge of SCADA systems
- Electrical license or Journeyman certification
- OSHA safety training
- Must have reliable transportation to/from the job site
