Position Summary

Novogradac & Company LLP is searching for a Senior Accountant to join our fast‑growing firm. The role involves managing a variety of tax and other assignments as designated by the Manager. At this level the Senior Accountant should function with minimal supervision, while increasing focus on supervising and mentoring staff, independent problem‑solving, strengthening client relationships and expanding team profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Complete tax projects for designated clients with minimal oversight by managers.
  • Conduct thorough engagement reviews.
  • Accept increasing responsibility for engagement management.
  • Recognize potential problem areas during engagements and propose effective solutions.
  • Conduct business‑specific research—gather and analyze data, interpret results, compile reports and make recommendations.
  • Develop, strengthen and maintain effective client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness and a service‑oriented approach.
  • Enhance industry knowledge by seeking out and completing training courses.
  • Increase the team’s profitability by managing your own time and that of staff efficiently, contributing ideas and adding value.
  • Supervise and mentor staff accountants.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Work toward obtaining a CPA license if not already obtained.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (advanced degree appreciated). 1–3 years of public accounting experience or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Ability to sit for the CPA exam or have passed a section of the CPA.
  • CPA license is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and tax rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn.
  • Accurate, detail‑oriented and time‑efficient work habits.
  • Strong organizational and follow‑through skills.
  • Capacity to prioritize a fast‑paced, varied workload and manage multiple priorities.
  • Openness to constructive feedback and ability to adjust accordingly.
  • Collaborative mindset fostering a productive, team‑oriented environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office (Excel) and report‑writing tools.
  • Professional demeanor with coworkers and clients.
  • Ability to meet internal firm deadlines (time entry, billing, etc.).
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required and to travel domestically.
  • Experience (helpful but not mandatory) with affordable housing, low‑income housing tax credits, opportunity zones, renewable energy tax credits, historical tax credits, HUD, new markets tax credits, real estate, developers, partnerships, housing authorities, CDFI, CDE, property compliance, nonprofit, single audit, Uniform Guidance, A‑133, forecasting, cost segregation, year‑15 exit, tax‑exempt bond and HOME programs.
