Position: Academic Support Specialist, STEM (Part-time 25hrs/wk)
The Position
This position is an entry-level position in Higher Education. The Academic Support Specialist- STEM supervises and provides mentoring and training support for student workers and professional tutors in the STEM Center. This position also spends time providing tutorial sessions to students in STEM content (mathematics and/or sciences). This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Academic & Tutoring Support Services.

This is an in-person position, candidates must be able to work in-person at our Tom's River location. Ocean County College does not provide visa sponsorship.
What You Will Do
Supervise STEM peer and temporary tutors, sign timesheets, conduct weekly meetings to provide guidance, assign tasks, and ensure accountability of direct reports.Oversee training and onboarding of new peer and professional tutors.Assist the coordinator and the Assistant Director with database maintenance and tracking STEM tutoring sessions.Provide one-on-one and group tutoring in STEM subjects (sciences and mathematics).Assist students in developing problem-solving strategies and mastering STEM concepts.Foster student engagement by guiding study sessions and implementing active learning techniques.Stay updated on STEM curriculum and best practices in tutoring to provide effective academic support.Identify student learning challenges and recommend appropriate resources or interventions.Ensure tutors stay current on curriculum changes and instructional methods through ongoing development and training.Participate in institutional activities such as colloquiums, commencement, and workshops as assigned.Manage related projects and administrative tasks as needed.The Successful Candidate Must Have
Bachelor's Degree in a field related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) is highly desirable AND one year of experience providing STEM tutorial support to students at the high school or college level.Or an Associate's Degree in a field related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) is acceptable provided the candidate has a total of three years of experience providing STEM tutorial support to students at the high school or college level.Demonstrated ability to serve as team/project leader and/or assist with supervision of others.Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a database system; ability to create standard/new reports with limited oversight; prior use of online platforms and sites.Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to effectively interact and engage with students and employeesEven Better If You Have
1. Bilingual.
2. Bachelor's degree in STEM-related field.
3. Prior supervisory experience.
4. Higher education experience.
5. Ability to tutor in Statistics
