This position provides classroom instruction, assessment, advising, and other activities leading to the overall academic and career growth of young adult students. Under direction of the Manager of Work Readiness, the GED and Work Readiness Instructor (WRAP) works closely with program students to ensure their success in the Work Readiness Assistance Program (WRAP) grant-funded program through the Ocean County Department of Human Services, Workforce Development Board (OCDHS).

The duration of this position is 52 weeks and is contingent on the Funding of the OCDHS Work Readiness Assistance Program Grant, which runs from Oct 1 to September 30th, 2027. This position is grant-funded. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.

  • Instructs all subject matter in Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency students at multiple academic levels in both traditional and distance education formats; develops and monitors student success plans and tutor students accordingly;
    Blends digital literacy skills and use of online resources into instruction; uses technology to communicate with student and staff and collects feedback; integrates family literacy and workforce preparation.
  • Administers assessment instruments to diagnose, evaluate, and place learners in the appropriate education program; also assists learner sin attaining a secondary school diploma and transitioning into post-secondary education, training and workforce preparation.
  • Maintains consistent, accurate, and timely records for student and program data; prepares designated reports including those that require adherence to state and program mandated report procedures, and assists with the preparation of grant applications and performance reports.
  • Provides comprehensive academic services needed to help students set and achieve appropriate academic goals, including instruction and advisement.
  • Develops lesson plans specified for selected classes depending on the subject matter assigned. Integrate on work readiness skills and career pathways lessons as set forth in the grant proposal.
  • Assists with the development and periodic review of curriculum; implements College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) across the curriculum; and actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and improved services to students and the community.
  • Networks and collaborates with staff, administration, and advisors to improve effectiveness and increase the success of transition students.
  • Attends relevant local, state and/or regional training sessions, meetings and conferences; participates on designated committees as assigned.
  • Related projects, initiatives and duties as assigned.
  • Requirements
  • 1. Bachelor's Degree in Education or closely related field.
  • 2. Possession of current New Jersey State Teaching License.
  • 3. At least one year of prior teaching experience in secondary education, higher education or adult education.
  • 4. At least two years of experience that included working with aBasic Skills, Adult Education, Workforce Readiness, or literacy program in an educational or community service environment that provided services to a diverse population of students or adult learners.
  • 5. Prior presentation and/or training experience that required excellent communication skills and the ability to prepare professional workshops and comfort working face-to-face and virtually with students.
  • 6. Prior knowledge of Federal and State Literacy programs.
  • 7. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MOS and a database system; ability to create standard and/or new reports with limited oversight; prior use of online platforms and sites.
  • 1. Master's Degree in Education or closely related field.
