About

the role

The Sample Disposal Custodian will be responsible for the safe and compliant disposal of environmental samples, waste materials, and laboratory consumables. This role ensures adherence to all regulatory, environmental, and safety standards while supporting the laboratory’s daily operations.

About you
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of environmental samples and laboratory waste according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation for all disposed samples, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure proper labeling, segregation, and storage of hazardous, non-hazardous, and biohazardous materials prior to disposal.
  • Coordinate with laboratory staff to schedule sample pickups and disposal activities efficiently.
  • Inspect waste containers and laboratory areas for compliance with safety standards and laboratory procedures.
  • Assist in training laboratory personnel on proper waste handling and disposal practices.
  • Maintain and operate waste disposal equipment, including autoclaves, incinerators, and chemical neutralization units, as applicable.
  • Participate in internal audits and support regulatory inspections related to waste management.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate degree or technical certification in environmental science or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in laboratory support, custodial services, or environmental services is a plus.
  • Knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling procedures.
Physical Demands
  • Frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs) and carrying of materials.
  • Standing, walking, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
  • Exposure to chemical, biological, and other environmental hazards under controlled safety protocols.
