Structural Engineer - Transportation

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Structural Engineer with a specialized background in transportation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of transportation infrastructure, including bridges, highways, and related structures. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the construction of transportation projects to ensure they meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.

Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, government agencies, and contractors will be essential to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and tunnels.
  • Perform structural calculations, prepare design drawings, and develop construction plans in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess structural conditions, identify deficiencies, and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other engineers to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and specifications for transportation projects.
  • Review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and materials for compliance with design requirements.
  • Ensure project deadlines and budgets are met while maintaining high-quality work.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to transportation engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on transportation projects.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP
    2000, STAAD.Pro, or similar.
  • In-depth knowledge of AASHTO, ACI, and other relevant design codes and standards.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and techniques for transportation infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience with project management, including budgeting and scheduling, is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with seismic design and analysis for transportation structures.
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software such as Revit or Tekla Structures.
  • Previous involvement in public-sector transportation projects and familiarity with DOT regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or Micro Station.
