Job Title:
Probation Officer – Morris/Sussex Vicinage Probation Division (Morris County Courthouse, Morristown, NJ; Sussex County Judicial Center, Newton, NJ).
The salary range for this position is $55,943.00 to $95,153.11 for Schedule A, and $55,943.00 to $91,346.99 for Schedule
B. Newly hired individuals receive the minimum of the range; promotions or lateral assignments receive an increase of 5% of base salary, subject to the band limits.
The selected candidate will serve as a liaison between Superior Court, Municipal Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Probation Division. Under the general direction of the Vicinage Assistant Probation Division Manager and supervisory team leader, responsibilities include case management, risk assessment, and coordination of services for offenders.
Responsibilities- Monitor and enforce conditions of court orders.
- Identify client/customer case management needs, including use of cognitive behavioral interventions for high‑risk clients.
- Inform clients/customers about available services.
- Coordinate services for customers/clients.
- Monitor case flow and treatment plans and consult with treatment team.
- Consult with judges regarding case status and case issues.
- Analyze case histories.
- Maintain data to enable statistical reporting.
- Confer with team members regarding management of cases.
- Prepare cases for hearing; interview clients; write case notes.
- Assign cases to appropriate track.
- Analyze and screen cases in accordance with existing laws, regulations, or professional practices.
- Administer client drug screenings.
- Perform field work including home, school, and community agency visits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
One night per week from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; travel to Sussex County Judicial Center and other Judiciary locations is required. The position may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings, requiring high‑speed home internet and a multifactor authentication app.
Eligibility & AdvancementOpen to NJ Judiciary employees who are currently holding the permanent title of Probation Officer or Probation Officer Bilingual, or employees with one year of permanent service in the title of Investigator or Investigator Bilingual who possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, including at least 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences.
Applicants anticipating graduation may apply, provided the degree is completed no later than the start date. A photocopy of the transcript is required at the time of application; an official transcript is required prior to beginning employment.
Physical AbilityApplicants must be able to climb, stand for prolonged periods, stretch, bend, and reach. Candidates may be required to frequent lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Driver’s LicenseA valid New Jersey driver’s license is required only if vehicle operation is necessary for job duties.
Authorization to WorkUS citizenship is not required; the selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US in accordance with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
