Public Safety Director - City of Orange Township.Is seeking to appoint a qualified applicant for the position of Public Safety Director. This executive-level position serves under the direction of the Mayor and is responsible for the overall administration, planning, coordination, and management of the City's public safety functions in accordance with applicable New Jersey statutes, municipal ordinances, Civil Service regulations, and Attorney General Guidelines. Definition:
Directs, plans, organizes, coordinates, and administers the operations of the Department of Public Safety; develops and implements policies and procedures governing public safety operations; oversees strategic planning, fiscal management, personnel administration, and community relations; performs related duties as required.
Examples Of Work
- Directs and administers the overall operations of the Department of Public Safety.
- Develops departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operational procedures.
- Oversees administrative and operational functions of the Police Department and other public safety divisions assigned by the Mayor.
- Plans, develops, and administers departmental budget.
- Reviews operational reports and recommends improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, Attorney General Directives, New Jersey Civil Service regulations, and municipal policies.
- Coordinates emergency preparedness, crisis management, and intergovernmental public safety initiatives.
- Represents the City in meetings with governmental agencies, community organizations, and professional associations.
- Supervises executive, managerial, and administrative personnel.
- Develops strategic initiatives to improve public safety services and community engagement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. A Master’s Degree in one of these areas is preferred.
Experience:
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement, public safety administration, and municipal government, including at least five (5) years in a command-level or executive management position involving supervision, budgeting, personnel administration, and policy development.
- Master’s degree in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Extensive training in executive leadership.
- Executive leadership experience in a New Jersey municipal law enforcement agency.
- Knowledge of New Jersey Civil Service laws and regulations.
- Experience administering collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience in transformational administration of public safety agency.
- Experience with municipal budgeting, strategic planning, and emergency management.
Knowledge And Abilities:

- Modern law enforcement administration and public safety management.
- New Jersey statutes governing municipal public safety operations.
- Budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Personnel administration and labor relations.
- Organizational leadership and strategic planning.
- Emergency preparedness and incident management.
- Effective oral and written communication.
License:
Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver's License.
SALARY:
Salary Range:

Full-time Salary range: $125,000 - $200,000
