The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Summary/Objective:
The pathology Technician provides Anatomic Pathology services under the direction and close supervision of a Board Certified, licensed Pathologist and a Board-Certified Pathology Assistant,
The Pathology Technician is responsible for grossing/dissecting cases including gallbladder, appendix, tonsils, knee and hip replacements, sinus, cysts, biopsies and any other specimen the Pathologists determines they are qualified and trained to dissect,
Pathology Technicians will interact with the Pathologists in the same manner that Pathology Physician s assistants carry out their duties under the Pathology Department Medical Director,
The Pathology Technicians serves as the eyes of the Pathologist and is often the initial individual to look at the specimen when it arrives from the operating room, clinic and/or physician s office,
Pathology Technician s contribute to the overall efficiency of the laboratory and pathology practice in a cost-effective manner by performing a variety of tasks: consisting primarily of gross examination of surgical pathology specimens but also includes using their skills as a Certified Histotechnologist,
Essential Functions
- Preparation, gross description, dictation and dissection of human tissue,
- Select representative sections for embedding, staining and microscopic evaluation,
- Ensures appropriate specimen accessioning,
- Photograph pertinent gross specimens as needed,
- Assist with Frozen Section tissue selection and preparation
- Review the patient's medical chart and other pertinent data in the computer system, if needed for grossing, to discuss with the attending pathologist,
- Confer with the attending pathologist to identify any special techniques or procedures to be utilized,
- Review and perform any required QA/QC
- Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment,
- Provision of adequate supplies,
- Cleaning of grossing stations,
- Disposal of biological and administrative waste,
- Solve any discrepancies or other issues that may arise,
- If time allows: assist and perform any Histological functions such as, but not limited to: embedding, cutting and performing IHC and Special Stains,
Job Requirements and Skills
- Associates of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related field
- ASCP Certified HT with a minimum of 5 years experience
- Must meet CAP and CLIA 88 high complexity testing requirements,
- Basic knowledge of human anatomy, macro surgical techniques, and general laboratory skills preferred
- Demonstrated ability to obtain and prepare tissue for evaluation and to provide assistance to pathologists in a timely and quality manner,
- Proficiency in preparing and maintaining records and in use of electronic communications tools and software,
- Knowledge/ability to become knowledgeable in voice recognition software, internet and multiple interfaced systems, various laboratory information systems and MS Word or equivalent applications,
- High degree of technical competence and knowledge of histological techniques,
- Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with students, staff, and faculty, with a higher or lower education level
- Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to organize workload
- Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possesnt to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines
- Familiarity with HIPAA and security compliance requirements
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a high stress environment

- Knowledge of general laboratory protocols and techniques
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Experienced Histology skills including but not limited to: embedding, cutting and performing IHC and Special Stains
