Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Certified Nurse Midwife collaborates with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, and multidisciplinary teams to provide primary care services consistent with established policies, procedures, Joint Commission policies, OSHA standards, and other safety and health codes.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complete health examinations of perinatal, prenatal, and postpartum patients, including health history and physical examination, in accordance with protocols established by the CMO or designee.
  • Provide direct care for women in labor, including management of normal delivery.
  • Provide health instruction for women in all stages of the life cycle.
  • Provide health examinations of inter‑partum patients, especially those seeking advice concerning family planning and gynecological issues.
  • Provide patient/family education, health counseling, and health advocacy services to patients, their families, and significant others.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to establish patient care programs and policies.
  • Participate in OB/GYN call schedule as directed.
  • Order appropriate laboratory studies and referrals, interpret the results of laboratory tests, and follow up on abnormal lab reports.
  • Order treatment in keeping with protocols established by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and OHI approved guidelines.
  • Provide direction and supervision to the ancillary clinical OB/GYN staff.
  • Carry out administrative activities in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department as directed by the CMO or designee.
  • Prepare reports of activities of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section as directed by the CMO or designee.
  • Carry out additional duties including research projects and community health education, as assigned by the CMO or designee.
  • Be responsible for the proper interpretation and execution of clinician orders.
  • Prepare OB/GYN paperwork, having knowledge of all forms pertinent to the EMR System.
  • Verify pregnancy tests and perform routine prenatal screenings.
  • Supervise patients and staff during an emergent OB/GYN situation until appropriate emergency medical assistance arrives.
  • Pursue necessary educational requirements to maintain license.
  • Instruct patients on all aspects of inter‑partum care, including medication, treatments, procedures, and pre‑term labor.
  • Provide leadership in clinical collaboration committees related to the day‑to‑day patient care model and demonstrate professional and leadership qualities to facilitate a cohesive and productive team.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Be capable of performing and analyzing routine in‑office testing.
  • Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of OHI.
  • Provide telephone triage and consultation to patients.
Education / Experience / Licensure
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Three to five years of experience at RN level in a medical center, private practice, or long‑term care setting is preferred.
  • Active State of New Jersey RN and Advanced Practice Nurse License are required.
  • Active State of New Jersey CDS and DEA License to prescribe and maintain controlled substances are required.
  • Certification by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse is required.
  • BLS for providers through the American Heart Association certification is required.
