Job SummaryTo coordinate and administer nursing care in the medical practices for children with special needs and medical complexity. The nurse provides clinical care and oversight for medical services including patient or family education, vaccine administration, point of care testing, patient triage and office evaluation. The nurse collaborates with internal and external care providers to ensure continuity of care within a patient and family centered, team based model consistent with the values and mission of Children’s Specialized Hospital.
Provide coverage to ACC practices within designated region as assigned by supervisor based on need.
- Associate’s degree required.
- BSN preferred.
- Experience with medical technology and medically complex children preferred.
- American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification required.
- Current New Jersey RN license.
- Full-Time
- 40 hours per week – Day shift
- 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday.
- As a floater, travel within designated region to provide nursing coverage during planned and unplanned leaves, education trainings, and extended illnesses.
- Provide clinical oversight for the medical assistant duties and competency as needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in caring for children with special needs, including technology dependence and medical complexity.
- Perform patient scheduling and other clerical duties as necessary.
- Perform and oversee competency and quality assurance for office-based point-of-care testing.
- Consistently appraise clinical performance and learning needs through self-evaluation.
- Exhibit consistent professional behavior and accountability for actions with regard to professional issues.
- Maintain required licensure and educational credits per external and departmental standards.
- Participate in Hospital Committees related to Nursing.
- Perform functions for EE Health as needed.
- Oversee flow and function of practice operations as needed.
- Ensure clinical staff coverage for site practice by identifying coverage resources and maintaining a coverage calendar.
- Demonstrate use of the nursing process to meet patient and family health care needs in the primary care and medical specialty setting.
- Perform and document nursing care according to hospital and departmental policy.
- Implement appropriate and individualized patient and family education within defined time frames per Practice guidelines or Provider directives, hospital and departmental policy.
- Provide patient education on diagnosis and symptoms, medication management and behavioral modification as directed by provider.
- Understand the importance of the interdisciplinary process.
- Promote continuity of nursing care and interdisciplinary interventions.
- Display competency in obtaining and interpreting the patient's behavior based on an understanding of cognitive and biophysical processes.
- Display an understanding of the developmental needs of the patient when planning and implementing services.
- Perform and manage vaccination administration, ordering, education and reporting in line with external and internal standards.
- Recognize and respect patient family rights in a culturally and religiously sensitive environment of care.
- Perform and document effective phone and live clinical triage of patients.
- Perform medication refill and authorizations as needed.
