Job Summary

Processes member purchases in a courteous and friendly manner, including verifying, renewing, upgrading, and offering various membership products, scanning merchandise, and accepting various forms of payments. Provides excellent member service in an efficient and productive manner while maintaining the overall cleanliness of the front‑line department.

• Exhibit clear understanding of all BJ’s Membership options, including renewals and upgrades.
• Offer appropriate membership products such as renewal, EASY renewal, BJ’s Loyalty programs, and rewards redemption.
• Provide a high level of customer service to members.
• Check members out in a timely and efficient manner.
• Scan all club merchandise through a point‑of‑sale system to ensure accurate inventory counts and purchase totals.
• Fill shopping carts when necessary and assist at self‑checkout stations.
• Collect payments via cash, check, or other charge payments from members.
• Issue receipts or change due to members.
• Stay up to date on all merchandise promotions, advertisements, and product information.
• Discount purchases by scanning and redeeming coupons.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the front‑line area.
• Assist in general club housekeeping when necessary.
• Return re‑sellable merchandise to the sales floor area.
• Manage self‑checkout, scan, and pan lanes.
• Assist members with operations and technical difficulties.
• Required to meet cashier productivity expectations.
• Maintain all club policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including working in other departments as needed.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of this job.

Basic math skills preferred. Prior cashier or sales experience preferred.

• Most of the time spent moving around frequently on hard surfaces.
• May need to bend, handle, pull, reach, and/or stoop to examine or scan merchandise.
• Frequently requires lifting objects up to 30 pounds; may also require lifting heavy or awkward objects greater than 30 pounds with assistance.
• Work is located in a comfortable indoor area with infrequent exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning agents.

The pay range for this position is $16.50 - $19.80 per hour. Actual salaries vary depending on location, education, experience, and qualifications.
