Norwegian Hull Club is a world-leading marine and offshore energy insurer with offices in Bergen, Oslo and London. We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Advisor to strengthen our Technical Department and provide first-class support to colleagues, clients and partners.

The position will be based in Bergen or Oslo, depending on the circumstances of the successful candidate.

Who we’re looking for

In order to provide technical support, as well as being an ambassador for The Club when meeting a diverse range of external parties, we’re looking for a technically competent person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You should possess solid, relevant experience that you can draw upon to deliver superior technical support and advice, as well as conduct surveys and issue survey reports.

Our preferred candidate will also:

  • Have a proactive and humble approach, as well as the confidence to make decisions and voice opinions;
  • Be able to rapidly understand clients’ needs and provide the support required;
  • Be objective, with the analytic and structured approach needed to establish and report causes of damage, cost and duration of repairs, etc.
  • Be open, with high standards of integrity;
  • Be a team player who can work independently when required.

Given the international nature of our business, travel is to be expected. Candidates should possess a solid command of English, both verbal and written. If applicable, a willingness to learn Norwegian will be considered an advantage.

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • Relevant technical education or equivalent experience;
  • Solid practical experience from the shipping / maritime industry;
  • Confident using digital tools and interested in developing technology-led services;
  • Knowledge of international marine insurance is desirable but not essential.
Main responsibilities

Marine surveys and technical support

You will provide technical advice and competence across Norwegian Hull Club, primarily supporting Claims Handlers as well as Underwriters and Assureds. You will conduct or assist with surveys and reports, collaborate with Claims Handlers, Adjusters, Surveyors and specialists, and support Claim Statements and Loss of Hire cases. Helping to identify opportunities to reduce repair time and share technical knowledge that strengthens loss prevention will also be part of this role.

The successful candidate will support Owners in preparing damage specifications and significant repair tenders, advise on tender conditions and contract proposals, as well as participate in invoice negotiations when repairs are completed.

Surveyor network and service development

You will help evaluate and develop The Club’s network of surveyors and specialists. As part of the Claims Department, you will also contribute to the evolution of Norwegian Hull Club’s services and products, including digital development.
