Shuttle Driver

GENERAL

PURPOSE:

As a Hospital Shuttle Driver, you will safely operate a BHC Healthcare shuttle van to transport hospital employees, patients, visitors, and guests between approved locations. As a BHC Healthcare team member assigned to a client facility, you will provide courteous service, assist passengers within your training, and follow designated routes and service schedules. Passenger safety takes priority over on-time arrival.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely operate the assigned shuttle van along approved routes, serving designated parking areas, hospital entrances, buildings, and other authorized locations.

Follow traffic laws, speed limits, and company and facility procedures; adjust driving to weather, traffic, and road conditions and avoid distracted driving.

Greet passengers professionally, provide directions, and communicate service delays or route concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Stop in designated safe areas for boarding and exiting; ensure passengers are seated, seat belts are used as required, doors are secured, and capacity limits are observed before moving.

Assist passengers with entering and exiting safely within established procedures and training; coordinate additional help when needed.

If equipped, operate wheelchair lifts or ramps and secure mobility devices and occupants only after required training and authorization. Do not provide clinical care or unapproved patient transfers.

Complete and document required pre-shift and post-shift vehicle inspections. Report defects promptly and do not operate an unsafe vehicle until cleared through the established process.

Immediately report accidents, injuries, vehicle damage, passenger concerns, and unsafe conditions; follow emergency procedures and complete required incident documentation.

Maintain a clean vehicle and clear aisles and exits. Check the passenger compartment for remaining passengers and belongings at the end of each route or service run.

Secure the parked vehicle and keys and maintain required trip, mileage, inspection, and service records accurately.

Protect confidential information and follow company and facility privacy, infection-prevention, safety, and security procedures.

Work cooperatively with BHC Healthcare and authorized facility staff while maintaining a professional appearance, patience, and respect for passengers.

Complete required orientation and vehicle-specific training and perform other related transportation and guest-service duties as assigned.

SKILLS and

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least 18 years of age; higher legal or insurance minimums apply where required.

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Must maintain a valid driver's license appropriate for the assigned vehicle, pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, and maintain a driving record that meets BHC Healthcare's driving and applicable insurance eligibility requirements throughout employment.

No CDL is required for this position.

Previous shuttle, passenger transportation, delivery, valet, hospitality, or customer-service experience preferred but not required.

Must complete required background, MVR, and any applicable drug screening, facility onboarding, and job-related driver qualification requirements in accordance with applicable law.

Ability to safely operate the assigned shuttle van and demonstrate competence with its controls, safety equipment, and passenger-assistance procedures.

Ability to follow approved routes and service schedules, communicate delays, and accurately complete vehicle and incident records.

Clear, calm communication with passengers and staff, including during emergencies.

Dependable attendance, punctuality, independent work, and sound judgment.

Ability to use job-related communication devices or transportation applications safely after training.

Role requires prolonged sitting and driving; frequent entry into and exit from the van; walking, standing, bending, and reaching; and passenger assistance within training. Work includes varying weather and traffic conditions.
