Job Summary
Midland Asphalt Materials Inc., a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corporation, delivers advanced pavement preservation solutions to customers across New York State. We are seeking experienced Asphalt Distributor Operators to join our team for the upcoming season. This is a seasonal, full-time opportunity running primarily from May through September/October, offering 40–60 hours per week. Drivers receive additional overtime after 8 hours per day on top of weekly overtime after 40 hours.
The Shop time is paid at $21.50-$26.00 per hour. The transport rate for this position is $30.00-$35.00 per hour. The job rate for this position is paid according to the NYS Prevailing wage schedule (varies by county), which ranges from $39.90-$46.21 per hour. Although the role is seasonal, your benefits remain active year-round, ensuring continuous coverage even during the off-season.
You may also be eligible for unemployment benefits during the winter months, providing additional financial support until the next season begins. There is an opportunity to participate in a winter work rotation, which is assigned by seniority and offers potential for continued work beyond the core season.
- Operate an asphalt distributor and apply specialized emulsions to roads
- Coordinate with Foreman for application rate and special instructions
- Understand the different emulsions and how to use each one safely and effectively
- Keep track of time and quantities of each project and communicate that to dispatch office
- Perform related duties such as shovel work, setting string line, adding or removing extensions, and changing spray nozzles
- Must have a valid Class B CDL with Airbrakes and Tanker Endorsements and good driving record
- Class A CDL, Hazmat Endorsement preferred
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Regularly required to climb in and out of vehicles and/or equipment
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly required to stand and walk across uneven terrain
- Frequent exposure to loud noise
- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles; exposure to high temperatures
- Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
- Required to work varying hours, including nights/weekends, and overnight travel with overnight stays
