Midland Asphalt Materials Inc., a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corporation, delivers advanced pavement preservation solutions to customers across New York State. We are seeking experienced Class B Asphalt Distributor Operators to join our team for the upcoming season. This is a seasonal, full-time opportunity running primarily from May through September/October, offering 40–60 hours per week. Drivers receive additional overtime after 8 hours per day on top of weekly overtime after 40 hours.
The Shop time is paid at $21.50-$26.00 per hour. The transport rate for this position is $30.00-$35.00 per hour. The job rate for this position is paid according to the NYS Prevailing wage schedule (varies by county), which ranges from $39.90-$46.21 per hour. Although the role is seasonal, your benefits remain active year-round, ensuring continuous coverage even during the off-season.
You may also be eligible for unemployment benefits during the winter months, providing additional financial support until the next season begins. There is an opportunity to participate in a winter work rotation, which is assigned by seniority and offers potential for continued work beyond the core season.
Main Responsibilities:
- Operate an asphalt distributor and apply specialized emulsions to roads
- Coordinate with Foreman for application rate and special instructions
- Understand the different emulsions and how to use each one safely and effectively
- Keep track of time and quantities of each project and communicate that to dispatch office
- Perform related duties such as shovel work, setting string line, adding or removing extensions, and changing spray nozzles
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must have a valid Class B CDL with Airbrakes and Tanker Endorsements and good driving record
- Class A CDL, Hazmat Endorsement preferred
- Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Regularly required to climb in and out of vehicles and/or equipment
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly required to stand and walk across uneven terrain
- Frequent exposure to loud noise
- Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles; exposure to high temperatures
- Regularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicals
- Required to work varying hours, including nights/weekends, and overnight travel with overnight stays
