K-3 Lead Teacher () Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing Utah State Board of Education Core Standards and Tooele County School District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

The Lead-Teacher will assist the Assistant Superintendent in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of the school in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.

  • To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
  • To serve as Principal in the absence of the Assistant Superintendent.
Essential Functions
  • Prepares students for college and career readiness.
  • Develops and administers school elementary curriculum consistent with Utah State Office of Education (USBE) Core Standards and Tooele County School District (TCSD) goals and objectives while providing Tier I instruction.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize available instruction time.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed in response to interventions.
  • Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. Participates in the PLC, Professional Learning Community, program.
  • Uses appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
Lead-Teacher Role
  • Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Core Standards and Tooele County School District (TCSD) goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
  • Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Supervises departments and activities as assigned.
  • Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices following the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs and all subgroups.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, corrective action, and other human resource issues as identified.
