Position Overview

The Tooele County School District is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to serve as a part‑time McKinney‑Vento Liaison. This crucial role ensures that students experiencing homelessness within our district receive the support and resources necessary to succeed academically and thrive in their overall well‑being. The Liaison will be a primary point of contact for homeless students and their families, district staff, and community partners, facilitating access to educational opportunities and vital support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advocate for and ensure the academic achievement and overall well‑being of students experiencing homelessness, striving for equitable opportunities comparable to their housed peers.
  • Monitor and track identified homeless students' academic progress, attendance, and social‑emotional development, which includes student check‑in visits at schools.
  • Collaborate with school staff (teachers, counselors, administrators) to address homeless students' unique academic and social needs.
  • Identify and enroll students experiencing homelessness in school, ensuring immediate enrollment and full participation in school activities.
  • Facilitate access to essential resources, including transportation, school supplies, clothing, and hygiene products, in alignment with TCSD standard procedures.
  • Provide direct support and guidance to homeless students and families regarding their educational rights and available resources.
  • Disseminate information about the McKinney‑Vento Act to school staff, parents, and community members.
  • Assist families with dispute resolution processes related to enrollment or services.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with community organizations, including homeless shelters, social service agencies, food banks, and healthcare providers, to provide comprehensive support to students and families.
  • Act as a liaison between the school district and external agencies to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Participate in community meetings and networks focused on addressing homelessness.
  • Effectively administer the McKinney‑Vento program locally in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collect and maintain accurate data on homeless students, including eligibility, enrollment, and services provided.
  • Prepare and submit required budgets and reports to the state education agency and appropriate district departments or personnel.
  • Maintain comprehensive records in accordance with confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assist in program evaluation to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay current on McKinney‑Vento eligibility, enrollment procedures, and other key aspects of the law, utilizing resources such as the NCHE Homeless Liaison Toolkit.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Federal Programs Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required (submit copy within job application).
  • Two or more years of college, and experience in the same or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness or economic hardship.
  • Knowledge of the McKinney‑Vento Homeless Assistance Act and its implications for educational settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Canva).
  • Valid Utah driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Contract: 29 hours per week, 177 days per year + 10 extra days before the first day of school

Support Professional Employees Salary

Schedule:

Lane O1 ($17.94/hr) with potential for additional level advancement with proof of higher education. Timecard Pay - Not Benefit eligible.
