Position: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER

Instructional Designer

The Instructional Designer is responsible for creating, developing, implementing, and evaluating training and development programs that support employee performance, compliance, and organizational needs. This role assesses training needs, translates operational and regulatory requirements into effective learning solutions, and delivers engaging instructional content across multiple formats. The Instructional Designer balances program development, facilitation, and administrative responsibilities to improve workforce skills, productivity, and service quality.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Training Needs Assessment & Program Development

  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and collaboration with managers and subject matter experts
  • Design and develop onboarding, orientation, and role-specific training programs aligned with organizational goals
  • Translate operational, compliance, and performance requirements into structured learning plans and curricular
  • Create, acquire, and maintain training manuals, guides, job aids, and course materials

Training Delivery & Facilitation

  • Facilitate training programs using a variety of instructional methods, including group discussion, lectures, simulations, videos, and blended learning formats
  • Present complex information clearly to diverse audiences
  • Incorporate de-escalation and performance-improvement strategies into training delivery

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, surveys, feedback, and performance outcomes
  • Review and assess training materials developed by instructors or third parties
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and best practices in training and instructional design

Documentation, Administration & Budget Management

  • Maintain accurate records of training activities, attendance, assessments, and retraining requirements
  • Prepare presentation slides, process documentation, charts, and visual materials
  • Perform administrative tasks including scheduling classes, coordinating enrollment, setting up systems and equipment, and monitoring costs
  • Assist with preparation and management of the training budget and maintain expense reports

Other Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Instructional Design, or a related field required, or Instructional Design certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in instructional design, training, or program development required
  • Experience in residential treatment, substance use, or behavioral health settings preferred
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and/or mental health challenges preferred
  • Knowledge of American Indian cultures, traditions, and community resources preferred
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), digital tools, data collection, Canva, project management, and database management systems

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Strong instructional design and facilitation abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Excel, and related software
  • Foundational graphic design skills
  • Ability to evaluate training options and recommend effective learning solutions
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with external partners

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed

Work Schedule

  • Full-Time, Monday through Friday
