Under the direct supervision of the Principal the purpose of the Refocus Mentor position is to provide support to the instructional program within the assigned school with specific responsibility for overseeing students who are exhibiting minor behavior concerns. This position will also provide support to the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) efforts and the Tier I behavior team at their school.
EssentialJob Functions
- Serve as an intervention specialist to students who are displaying behavior concerns above normal classroom Tier 1 misbehavior.
- Assist with implementation of behavioral plans designed by the IEP team or Behavior Assistance Team for students exhibiting behavior that prevents their success in the classroom.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to implement and maintain services and/or programs.
- Coordinate program components, support needs and materials to meet district guidelines.
- Maintain detailed records to meet reporting requirements.
- Monitor student behavior to ensure student success.
- Supervise assigned students within or outside the classroom during regular school hours on a limited basis.
- Supervise and manage students in non‑classroom activities such as cafeteria, recess, and busing.
- Perform other related duties to ensure positive classroom learning environments and experiences.
- Assist in maintaining documents, files and records to inform teachers and parents of students' progress.
- Respond to inquiries from students, teachers, administrators, parents, etc., to solve problems, provide information and/or direct to available resources.
- Contact parents through phone call or other means when parent involvement is needed to collaborate about their student's behavior.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
- Works in standard office and school building environments.
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required (submit diploma or certification within the job application). - Title I School Requirement:
To work at a Title I school, candidates must meet the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standard by fulfilling one of the following:- Hold an Associate's degree (if applicable, upload evidence within job application)
- Have completed at least 48 college or university credit hours (if applicable, upload transcript within job application)
- Successfully pass the Master Teacher Paraprofessional exams within 3 months of being hired
- Minimum Age:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Non‑exempt
Contract* 29 hoursper week, 177 day per year, time card. Support Professional Employees Salary Schedule, Level O1 - $17.94per hour (additional pay given for experience and higher education). Non-Benefits Eligible
* This position is funded by a soft funding source. Continuation of the role each school year is contingent on an annual review and ongoing availability of funds.
