Adaptive Pe Paraprofessional Position
Under supervision of a credentialed Adaptive Physical Education (A.P.E.) specialist, completes a variety of tasks and activities designed to develop motor skills, physical fitness, sports recreation, and game achievement; works with students who have been identified as requiring Adaptive Physical Education by an Individualized Education Team (I.E.P. Team); requires the ability to utilize and maintain specialized equipment and materials; performs related duties as assigned by the A.P.E. Specialist or TCSD District Special Education Department.
Essential job functions:
- Provide Adapted Physical Education services to students with special needs through lesson plans, data collection and close guidance and supervision of the Adapted Physical Education teacher.
- Instruct students, using adapted physical education techniques, to improve physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, or sports, recreation and game achievement.
- Maintain thorough student records to document attendance, participation, or progress, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
- Provide students positive feedback to encourage them and help them develop an appreciation for physical education.
- Provide individual or small groups of students with adapted physical education instruction that meets desired physical needs or goals.
- Establish and maintain standards of behavior to create safe, orderly, and effective environments for learning.
- Carry out lesson plans provided by assigned Adapted Physical Education teacher.
- Communicate behavioral observations and student progress reports to the Adapted Physical Education teacher while ensuring confidentiality.
- Attend meetings with the assigned Adapted Physical Education teacher to discuss progress of students, behavior needs and, lesson plans.
- Maintain inventory of instructional equipment, materials, or aids.
Itinerant - Driving from school to school. Equipment:
Use of physical education equipment required;
Use of standard office equipment, such as personal computers, copiers, and online learning management systems required Travel Requirements:
Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices may be required of certain positions Work Environment:
Works in School buildings, possibly outside, standard office and gymnasium environments.
Qualification Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School Diploma or equivalent Associate Degree, preferred Must be at least 21 years of age FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Contract
* 29 hours per week, 177 days per year, Time Card Not Benefit eligible
