We are seeking a skilled and reliable Residential Foundation & Utilities Excavator to join our team. In this hands‑on role, you will perform excavation, trenching, back filling, and related tasks for new home construction and residential projects.
Key Responsibilities- Excavate foundation areas, basements, crawl spaces, and footings to exact specifications using excavators, skid steers, or other equipment, ensuring proper depth, width, and slope per blueprints and engineering plans.
- Trench for underground utilities including water lines, sewer/septic connections, storm drains, electrical conduits, gas lines, and telecommunications, while maintaining required depths and separations to avoid conflicts.
- Locate and pothole existing utilities (hand digging or vacuum excavation when needed) to prevent damage; coordinate with utility locate services (e.g., Call 811).
- Backfill excavations around foundations, utilities, and trenches with appropriate materials, compacting in lifts to prevent settling and ensure stability.
- Grade and level sites as needed, remove spoils/debris, and prepare areas for concrete foundation pours or slab installation.
- Assist with installing or placing utility pipes, conduits, bedding materials, and related components during trenching.
- Operate and maintain small to mid‑sized equipment (mini excavators, skid steers, compactors, loaders, excavators) safely and efficiently.
- Perform manual labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, hand‑digging in tight areas, and site cleanup.
- Follow all OSHA trenching/excavation safety standards, including sloping, shoring, benching, and cave‑in protection for trenches over 5 feet deep.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site; report hazards immediately.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, foundation crews, plumbers, electricians, and other trades.
- Complete daily equipment logs, inspect machinery, and perform basic maintenance.

- 3+ years of experience in residential excavation, foundation digging, utility trenching, or related construction work (preferred).
- Proven ability to operate excavators, skid steers, or similar heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of residential building codes, utility installation requirements, and soil types/behaviors.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret basic site plans, blueprints, and elevations.
- Strong understanding of safety practices, including utility locates, trench safety, and PPE usage.
- Physical fitness to perform demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions (lifting 50+ lbs, standing/bending for long periods).
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
- OSHA 10‑hour construction safety certification (or willingness to obtain).
