MECHANIC - FIRE FLEET MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

$30.00/hour;

Tooele City is accepting applications from existing Tooele City 1st Class Volunteer Firefighters for a part-time, variable hour position as a Mechanic/Fire Fleet Maintenance Specialist.
ResponsibilitiesYou will support our fire department by performing skilled journey level tasks related to the service and inspection of fire department fleet including fire engines, brush trucks, trailers, vehicles, and fire equipment stored, mounted, or affiliated with the fleet systems. Some of the more typical duties include:
- Follow weekly check list and perform preventative maintenance and safety checks including but not limited to, checking and maintaining small engines, fans, generators, work lights, fluids, tires, air systems, brakes, lights and sirens, and other safety components;
- Diagnose, repair, or coordinate the repair of fleet;
- Ensure fleet is fueled and ready for emergency response;
- Maintain interior and exterior condition of fleet and apparatus;
- Develop apparatus maintenance and repair programs for the department;
- Repair or coordinate with vendors for the repair of electrical and on board computerized systems; hydraulics; brakes and air brakes; engine repair; air systems; exhausts; axels and suspension; fire pumps; and aerial apparatus.
- Coordinates with Tooele City Shops Division as needed;
- Keep inventory of needed supplies and recommend needs;
- Coordinate annual testing of fire pumps, aerial ladder equipment, and emissions for fire fleet;
- Maintain service and maintenance records;
- Maintain department's HAZCOM and SDSs;
- Communicating issues or problems with the Chief.
- Experience and education that is equivalent to two years specialized training and 3 years work experience performing maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel engines(work on emergency fire equipment highly desired);
- Self initiative and ability to work independently with limited supervision;
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the job;
- Possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License and driving record acceptable to Tooele City's insurance and risk management guidelines;
- Ability to drive all department apparatus/vehicles in order to test drive for diagnosis and test of repairs;
- Ability to respond to emergency call-outs within reasonable period of time;
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and maintain confidence of Tooele City and the Tooele City Fire Department as it pertains to servicing emergency response and safety vehicles;
- Ability to wear needed PPE and perform work with attention to personal safety and the safety of others.
