Position
Tax Accountant – Director of Tax, Finance Department, Lenexa, KS/Topeka, KS – onsite.
OverviewSeasoned tax professional looking to leave the long hours of public accounting for complex, multi‑entity in‑house work without the traditional busy‑season grind.
Responsibilities Tax Compliance & Reporting- Prepare and review federal and multi‑state tax work papers.
- Prepare documentation for and review returns prepared by external CPA firms.
- Analyze book‑to‑tax differences.
- Prepare state apportionment schedules.
- Support tax‑related disclosures and documentation.
- Prepare quarterly tax projections using budgeted and forecasted financial data.
- Assist in estimating annual tax liabilities.
- Submit quarterly federal and state tax payments and maintain documentation.
- Research and respond to federal and state tax notices.
- Communicate directly with taxing authorities to resolve issues.
- Maintain documentation of resolutions.
- Serve as liaison between the company and external CPA firms.
- Conduct tax research to support compliance and planning initiatives.
- Participate in process improvements and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of public accounting experience with corporate and LLC tax preparation.
- Strong knowledge of federal and multi‑state tax compliance.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities independently.
- Experience in preparing and filing multi‑state tax returns.
- Experience working within complex, multi‑entity structures.
